Virtual Credit Cards

Privacy.com http://privacy.com offers a totally free solution to securely purchase goods and services using a credit card. This site allows you to create a virtual credit card with limits that are set by you. There is not charge for this service as the fees are charged to the seller. So what are the advantages?… you can setup a virtual credit card for each service requiring you to attach a credit card to your account so they can autobill you. For example subscribe to the promotional package for Sirius XM and use the virtual card number, then close that account. After a year when they try to autobill you for the full subscription, because you forgot to cancel, they will have no account to bill to. There are many more advantages, check it out and come up with your ideas.

Dual Boot the Lattepanda Alpha with Windows and Ubuntu 18.04

Today I completed my Dual Boot configuration of my LattePanda Alpha, I am now running the pre-configured Windows 10 alongside Ubuntu 18.04. For some reason I expected the worse, I added a 500Gb SSD to the M.2 slot, formatting 100gb as shared data NTFS leaving the remaining free. Following the dual boot steps in this post https://www.itzgeek.com/how-tos/linux/u … -boot.html  I walked through step by step mostly only changing the partition sizes.

The results… an extremely fast and responsive dual boot Panda Alpha. I have not tested the wifi or other extended board feature, but basic functionality, mouse, keyboard, graphics and network are working. I added a 3D printed case and so far i am impressed, time to start some software projects.

Starting a new Project with the LattePanda Alpha

This is a great little SBC and is due to be in general release in late December 2018.  I 3D printed a case and had it up and running with MS Window 10 Pro in about 15 minutes.  I added a 500Gb M.2 SATA SSD drive to the connector on the rear of the board, the intention is to Dual Boot with Windows 10 Pro and Ubuntu 18.04.  I have not setup the WIFI yet, selecting instead to use the Ethernet port.

On the rear of the board you can see the 2x M.2 ports as well as connections for Touch Panel Display and several other features.  Documentation is a little sparce  at this point however.

Maps in China

The google maps app is blocked in China, but not Apple Maps. Unfortunately Apple Maps routinely shows my destination several blocks away, in the middle of the lake, etc. it is basically unusable. I did find that Google Maps does work when I use the internet on my mobile device via China Mobile, and it is generally right on target.

ReactOS

ReactOS version 0.4.9 is still Beta but is an attractive alternative to MS Windows for those needing to run older versions of Windows applications. With Windows XP and Windows 7 sunsetting give ReactOS a try on new hardware.
